When cleaning no longer fixes the duct

The load comes out damp. The cycle runs 90 minutes instead of 45. The cabinet is hot to the touch, and there is a faint burning smell. Sometimes a cleaning solves that. Sometimes the duct itself is the problem, and no brush will fix it. Crushed foil behind a pedestal pair in a shallow closet is a replacement, not a cleaning.

Replacement means rigid metal where we can reach, and smooth-wall where we cannot. Flexible foil and vinyl trap lint in every ridge. Screws that poke into the airstream catch lint too, so joints get foil tape instead. Laguna Niguel's second-floor laundry rooms often run 18 to 30 feet vertical to a roof jack, with offsets. Lint falls back down those rises and packs at the base. Shortening the run or straightening offsets usually matters more than the duct material.
